Revive: mamashop
Rethinking how to breathe new life into a dying culture
Project details
With the passing of time and increasing modernisation, the culture of traditional mamashop starts to wean off as more businesses of such nature shuts down. Whilst being near residential areas, businesses of such nature are not comparable to bigger competing players, such as other convenience stores, supermarkets and e-commerce platforms. What can be done to help revitalise this traditional culture?
Located in a residential town estate called Pasir Ris, this project aims to look at how we can rethink the culture and help prolong this nostalgic tradition.
This concept is split into three parts:
Concept
Model Reference
1:20 Scale
1:1 Scale
Mobile App (has since been reworked as a separate project)
Looking into the culture of mamashop and the community
The project started off with site visits to better understand the selected community space. It is important to note that different communities and estates have different living habits and community profile. These observations would then serve as a basis for setting up the concept later on.
